Amazing article! I’m a design engineer myself and, If I may, I would like to suggest also a job board for these roles that I’m curating: https://uimakers.club

I would love to see more companies looking for this kind of profiles and I want to help people like me to find their ideal job!

These rolls have been around for years. usually falling between the cracks as companies push us into one bucket or the other. I like what was on the job listing for my current role "Creative Software Engineer" but I've also been called 'Prototype Engineer" "Creative Technologist" "Design Technologist" etc. my only worry with "Design Engineer" is that it sounds more like Systems Design and not visual or ux design. It sounds like an software architecture role..

I've been an engineer for nearly 20 years and have extensive training in product management, information architecture, design, and ux. This article was exciting, until I looked at the salary ranges. Very low salaries for the skillsets.

“Design Engineers tend to work on products and systems that involve adapting and using complex scientific and mathematical techniques.”

Can you give us examples or a source for this statement? Design is about learning about human behaviour, context and motivation, digesting intentions, recognising patterns and combining ideas to work out a smooth and useful experience that fulfils the desired expectations. I wonder how complex scientific and mathematical techniques will help with this process.
